That is why Agrob Buchtal now initiated the Tile AwaRD 2012, which this time as well was addressed to young (interior) architects up to the age of 35 years.
The basic facts Again, unconventional, spectacular interiors with ceramic tiles were looked for, which reveal the creative potential of this proven building material manufactured from natural raw materials. These high expectations were met in every respect by innovative and out-of-the-ordinary results. A novelty of the competition this time was that three categories were specified: Hotel/Gastronomy, Health/Care and Wellness/Spa. Design concepts for these categories could be submitted until the end of April 2012. After that, the judgement by a highly distinguished jury followed, which comprised the competent experts
- Willem Bruijn / baumschlager eberle (a.o. Berlin, Hong Kong, Paris, Vienna, Zurich)
- Raimund Docmac / Atelier Brückner (Stuttgart)
- Petra Wollenberg / leyk wollenberg architekten (Berlin)
The workshop From all submissions as well as some “wild cards“, ten (interior) architects from China, Denmark, Germany, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland and Switzerland were invited to a workshop at the beginning of June 2012, which was accompanied by Agrob Buchtal, represented by - Christiane von der Laake (Head of Design Department, Architectural Ceramics) - Christoph Schulze (Brand Manager) With Sorrento at the Italian Amalfi Coast, a place was chosen which really was perfect for a workshop. Not only the climate and the landscape were inspiring, but even the accommodation: the concept hotel of the architect and designer Gio Ponti, who himself designed the numerous ceramic surfaces in the hotel, provided that stimulating atmosphere which is conducive to the playful in-depth development of ideas. Thus, to the delight of the jury and the organizing company, design concepts were created with different stylistic devices which were amazing thanks to their high quality, originality and expressiveness.
The winners Accordingly tough was the decision at the nomination of the winners (details: see captions to the attached photos):
