Melissa Burton works in the Advanced Technology & Research team in Arup's New York office. She is Associate Principal with specialist expertise in climate modelling and wind engineering. Melissa has worked as senior technical expert on a large number of international projects and has extensive experience in wind tunnel testing and computational numerical analysis. She has a track record in investigating wind issues such as wind loading and dynamic response for high-rise buildings, stadiums, masterplans and long-span roof structures. Melissa is an accomplished advisor on microclimate strategies and helps to provide early identification of design issues which may lead to adverse microclimate response. Her technical expertise in microclimate assessment ranges from wind comfort, dispersion analysis, natural ventilation, and thermal comfort. In addition, she has been involved in developing climate models for wind codes, providing design risk assessments, and has experience in full-scale monitoring and water flume visualization. Melissa is a specialist in the field of the effects of wind-induced vibration on occupant comfort and is at the top of the field of the wind design industry. She has both lived and worked in the UK, Asia, and North America and has a global portfolio of project work.
