The Woods Pavilion is part of a general redevelopment of Piazza San Bartolomeo, the public square in Fossò (in the province of Venice), inaugurated in last December 23, 2017. The construction costs of the whole project worth 500,000 euros, co-financed for 350,000 euros from the Regional Implementation Program of the Veneto Development and Cohesion Fund 2007/2013 (FSC), Axis 5, Line 5.3 "Restructuring of urban centers and their capacity for service".

On the west side of the square at the end of the paved area and bordering the green area, a covered metal structure called "Padiglione del Bosco -The Woods Pavilion" has been created: it is a complex urban furnishing with a strong aesthetic and symbolic value as well as functional.
The Pavilion occupies a central space of San Bartolomeo square and constitutes its welcoming heart for the entire population. It has a covered area of about 300 square meters and is used as a multipurpose, exhibition, celebrative space and it is available for all the activities of the community of Fossò.

The Pavilion has been realized with a supporting structure in corten steel portals, with different bending angles, which support the roof realized with a fixed structure in sandwich panels and corrugated sheet, the best choice at a mechanical level, both for as regards protection against atmospheric agents and summer radiation.

In this way the effect obtained is a light structure that can be penetrated to the light, which recalls for shapes, colors and materials those existing in nature, in particular it recalls the movement of trees moved by the wind. The Pavilion does not create visual or physical barriers, but leaves the gaze free and the passage through the Piazza.

The evocation of the forest is recalled even more by the presence of two rows of trees that prolong the sequence of the posts bearing Cor-ten on the north-south axis, and constitutes a natural extension of the Pavilion in the open air, dematerializing it in a collective space open, where nature takes possession of the built: the grass replaces the paving stone, the trees alternate the pillars and the sky is the cover of this natural square.

During the night the Pavilion is illuminated by two rows of LED spotlights on the ground that illuminate the structure from the bottom to the top, and by these two LED strips placed on the two long perimeter sides of the roof: the night effect is very suggestive and allows the structure to be used even in the dark hours.

From a careful initial analysis, which lasted about 5 months and carried out by inspections on different days of the week in all time slots, it emerged that Piazza San Bartolomeo, before the construction of the Bosco Pavilion, was used partially and sporadically. Without both identity and urban furniture, this enormous common space seemed to be out of measure and inadequate to meet the needs of public life.

The square was used every day for a small portion, mainly on the north-east side, in correspondence of the area in front of the building on the north side, as a parking lot for residents and customers of shops, and was used for about one third of its surface for half a day a week to host the local weekly market.

Now the Piazza has been reborn: the new order created with urban redevelopment and the construction of the Woods Pavilion has brought the population back to relive this gathering place at any time of day or evening: it is not only a symbol of modernity and renewal , but also of rebirth for a square that for too many years had been disqualified, abandoned and degenerated.
