The situation and function of the hotel and spa resort on the Pannonian Plain along the Belgrade-Zagreb main road determines the organisation of the space and the built masses, as well as the material appearance of the new building. The flowing design of the singularly-organised buildings forms a shelter from the various impacts generated by the road traffic. All the entrances are oriented towards the access from the road, while the entirety of the programme opens onto the intimate inner space, which faces the open views of nature.

The terraced hotel rooms rise above the complementary hotel, congress, and spa programmes occupying the lower floors. Without exception, the rooms point away from the unwanted impacts of the busy road. A further reduction of these impacts is derived from the interior hotel communications, which are organised in the intermediary space between the accommodation capacities and the artery road. The interior spaces act as a soft delineation between the exterior programme surfaces and divide them into related programme clusters.

The facade cladding - straw - and the construction of the building - timber - have a strong presence in the local building tradition. Owing to the demanding construction, they are used in a different manner; however, the facade cladding in particular effortlessly traces the organic design of the built masses.

The building planned in the primary stage of the development will serve as a model for the subsequent expansion of the complex. Along with a very conservative land-to-building ratio, the emphasis is placed on the nature-inspired design of the exterior surfaces which reference the design cues of the principal building.

Curriculum

Enota was founded in 1998 with the ambition to create contemporary and critical architectural practice of an open type based on collective approach to development of architectural and urban solutions. Constant changes and new complex situations in the world around us drive us to think about new architectural and urban solutions. In order to be able to produce answers to those new questions we believe it’s time to surpass the boundaries of conventional discipline set mainly by our cultural backgrounds. Enota’s team of architects focuses on research driven design of the environment where study of contemporary social organizations and use of new technologies are interwoven to produce innovative and effective solutions. Enota’s solutions are strongly influenced by research, reinterpretation and development of social, organizational and design algorithms that derive from nature. The result is always a strong binding of the buildings with the environment that surrounds them.
