Exhibition and exposure stand design of the ethnografic center Mandeo.

Barge Bouza Architects. Curtis, A Coruña, Spain.

The action is undertaken with the idea of proposing a visit where we recreate the atmosphere of the exterior environmen. A continuity of sensory experience through a walk along the hillside of the river.

The exhibition support interacts with the buildings, seeking to complement the spatial experience, taking advantage of double heights and interstitial spaces and at the same time allowing the visitor to perceive the space as a whole, building and exhibition are fed back providing a cognitive essay that extends from the outside towards inside. The exhibition as part of the way, a brief stop on the path.

The exhibition support is designed according to the environmental conditions and is sustainable from the ecological point of view. A framework of cedar wood that forms a structure capable of transmit the experience of the walk, through the different information elements. In this way the volume is used in its entirety, occupying its heights and voids.

The use of an autonomous and self-supporting exhibition element assumes respect for the building's architecture: radiant floors, exposed concrete walls, false ceilings, etc. At the same time being a recyclable component, a change of use in the building would not cause any inconvenience as regards the disassembly of support and exposure and subsequent reuse.

The framework is formed by strips of cedar wood of 10x7 cm, with blocks of 30x10 cm that make up the base and lid, extruded linearly. In this way different supports are generated as well as the most significant furniture of the center, with a simple and economical assembly.

The rapid implementation of the work, based on prefabricated pieces of cedar wood reduces the indirect costs of production. Its reversibility makes it possible that in case of being dispensable the slats can be incorporated into new construction processes.

In this way the intervention helps to adequately adapt the museum-graphic resources, enhancing the environmental, cultural and ethnographic values that the Mandeo treasures, without dispense with the different exhibition typologies. Different languages are combined in this way; contemplative, interactive or experimental.

Somehow, the design of the exhibition is projected as an extension of the design of the building, proposing a complete sensory experience, in dialogue with the surrounding landscape.

Interior and exterior intermingle, diluting the boundaries between nature and artifice.
