THE FUTURE OF LIVING AND THE PLANET OF THE FUTURE
By Editorial Staff -

“The Future of Living and the Planet of the Future”, the space&interiors exhibition and event curated by Stefano Boeri Architetti took place from April 17th through April 21st. The Mall in Milan’s Porta Nuova has been transformed into a space that explores the future of living by recreating an environment best suited to Mars, most likely the next frontier for humanity. Thanks to an evocative setting created by the Boeri Studio, visitors were immersed in an atmosphere reminiscent of the Red Planet, and offered a selection of articles by some of the foremost companies working in architecture and interior design.
space&interiors 2018 was conceived as a showroom for an articulated selection of quality finishings, solutions and materials offering a view toward the future and interpreted by protagonists in the intersecting worlds of architecture, space exploration and spatial design.
Massimo Buccilli, President of Made Eventi, the operating company under FederlegnoArredo association and genus of the space&interiors event, exclaimed, “We wished to create a journey rich in stimuli toward a more imminent future. Part and parcel to this journey is a program of top level multidisciplinary encounters which have seen world class architects such as Carlo Ratti and Italo Rota match talent with other noteworthy professionals starting with those who already have lived on other worlds such as the astronaut Luca Parmitano - the first Italian to go into orbit and Valentina Sumini, winner of a contest promoted by NASA to design the very first space hotel. Yibo Xu, Partner and Director of the Shanghai office of Stefano Boeri Architetti faced off with Jakob Lange who developed the Mars Simulator in the UAE for BIG Bjarke Ingels Group. The concept of Life in Space also had artistic input, thanks to the work by architects/videomakers, Giorgio Zangrandi and Davide Rapp. Rapp was also featured in the closing event, matching wits with master of paradox, Renato Pozzetto”.
“Anticipate the future of living spaces has long been the mission of Italian design. Playing with paradox, we asked firms to try and foresee far into the future; one in which our species must migrate to another planet, thereby contesting imminent climate change and the rising of sea levels,” commented Stefano Boeri.
Also thanks to the contribution of Houzz, homes of the future have been showcased in truly concrete terms. Along with Hotel Rewind, numerous projects, ideas and solutions that the hotel industry is already putting in place with an eye toward tomorrow have been unleashed.
