Executive quality and careful selection of stone materials

Marmi Ghirardi has participated in the project

During the latter half of the 19th century, thanks also to the development of the railway network, Europe’s elite classes discovered the pleasures of staying at renowned destinations such as the bathing resorts on the French Riviera and in Normandy, or the Italian lakes, the Swiss mountains or the continent’s many cities of art. And so the hotel industry emerged and developed, swiftly becoming a new frontier in architecture: it was no longer the era of designing private buildings and dwellings but rather that of large tourism complexes where the watchword was ‘luxury’.

Nowadays, the hotel industry offers a vast range of solutions. New technologies enhance past values, the charm of a place is intertwined with panache and design. This is the context to Marmi Ghirardi: through its G1938 brand, it applies its accrued expertise to international projects featuring executive quality and a careful selection of stone materials, with results that are appreciated worldwide. Many completed designs bear witness to this: from the Watergate Hotel in Washington to the Sheraton in Muscat, from the Emerald Hotel in Pristina to the St. Regis in Cairo, as well as the Kang Won Hotel in South Korea, the Grand Hyatt in Shanghai, the Radisson Blu Juba in Sudan, the Four Seasons in Hampshire and the Ritz Carlton in Doha.

The Savoy Palace Hotel in Gardone Riviera, Italy, adds an important page to the catalogue of creations by Marmi Ghirardi. Inaugurated in 1906 and considered one of the loveliest on Lake Garda, this edifice has returned to its former splendour thanks to the recent refurbishment carried out by this Lombardy-based company.

The most recent project by Marmi Ghirardi / G1938 officially opened in October 2021 and is the Westin London City, a five-star hotel in the British capital. Located on the banks of the River Thames, the complex has been designed to offer its guests an opportunity for relaxation inspired by nature in the heart of a large city, and is structured with 222 bedrooms ‒ 29 of which are suites ‒ and 9 luxury apartments.

Marmi Ghirardi / G1938 contributed to completing the building by supplying various types of marble and stone: Silver Shadow, Fior di Bosco, Tundra Blue, Nero Avola, Silk Georgette, Bianco Carrara, Bathstone Rock Finished, and a Portuguese limestone. These materials were used for the finishes in the hotel’s reception rooms and public areas and in some parts of the apartments, as well as for most of the external cladding.
