From September 20 through 22, Barcelona is hosting the District 2023, an international trade event devoted to real estate. Now up to its second edition, the District has already become the key European tradeshow for the industry, and Barcelona is preparing to welcome over 10,000 real estate professionals from around the world.
Subtitled “Where Real Business Happens”, the District 2023 will see the biggest players on the European real estate scene converge on the Fira Barcelona – Gran Via conference center to discuss what strategies need to be implemented to tackle the current economic situation.
With the aim of attracting both funding and real estate professionals to Barcelona in September, preparations for the District 2023 began in March in Cannes, where it took part in MIPIM, and continued with presentations in London and other European cities. The second edition will bring together the whole gamut of real estate professionals, from investment funds to consultancy companies, marketing agencies, and property managers.
Juan Velayos, the District president, spoke about the importance of the event: “We’re aiming to consolidate the summit’s position in the international circuit of real estate events. To achieve this, we’ll be featuring high-profile speakers who’ll share their strategic vision with us in a space designed from the ground up to maximize business opportunities”.
The District 2023 will be structured around three key themes that represent the underpinnings of the real estate sector today: the development of capital market structures; the transformation of various assets, such as residential, hospitality, office, retail, industry and logistics, healthcare, senior and student living, data centers and others; and the key role of ESG criteria in the profitability of real estate projects.
The District 2023 incorporates the District World Summit, the largest real estate conference in Europe. The event will analyze how real estate strategies such as repricing, asset reconvention, and refinancing are influencing the market in view of the financial volatility of recent months. The assets that attract most interest among investors, along with those that are likely to become a trend, will also be discussed. To do it, the conference will host over 380 international experts who’ll talk about the key real estate trends that are moving capital today and the challenges that the sector will face for the rest of this year.
Among the speakers at the District World Summit 2023 are Guillermo Baygual, managing director of JP Morgan; James Piper, partner at TPG; Ana Estrada, managing director of the Merchant Banking – Europe Real Estate Investments division at Goldman Sachs; Paul Brennan, managing director and co-head real estate at King Street; and Leticia Fusi, managing director of Castlelake.
This year’s slogan, “Where Real Business Happens”, sums up the spirit of the event, with over 250 companies presenting projects and seeking investment. Various networking activities are also being organized, such as the Leadership Summit and the 2023 World-Class District Awards, intended to put a spotlight on industry leaders. Finally, the ten most promising startups will participate as finalists in the Proptech Startup Forum, dedicated to innovation in the sector.
