Milan’s International Bathroom Exhibition 2024: wellness and environmental protection

All the latest bathroom trends on show at the biennial event held as a part of Salone del Mobile Milano

The best of the 2024 International Bathroom Exhibition

Alongside the Eurocucina kitchen show, the International Bathroom Exhibition took a starring role at Milan’s 62nd Salone del Mobile, held April 16–21, 2024, at the Fiera di Milano exhibition center.

Established in 2006, the International Bathroom Exhibition is a key event for the bathroom sector, offering a broad vision of the latest trends and innovations. With almost 200 exhibitors from all over the world, the event showcased an enormous range of products, including furniture, accessories, shower enclosures, sanitary ware, radiators, faucets, and bathtubs.

The new products on show are a good indicator of the ongoing evolution of this sector, which is increasingly focused on high-tech and sustainable products.

Archeda and the archetypes of ancient Greece

Archeda, Olimpo courtesy of Archeda

At Salone del Mobile, Archeda presented the latest additions to its Tulle collection, comprising a series of wall-hung furnishings that offer as good as infinite compositions. Designed by Dario Poles, the collection is distinctive for its lack of handles and the 45° finger groove opening.

The new addition for 2024 is Olimpo, a series of pedestal sinks inspired by ancient Greece. Made of Okite® – a material that’s resistant to acids, heat, and scratches – these washbasins have a grain that runs through their entire thickness, similar to that of natural marble. The Olimpo series is also available in white and colored acrylic, with a selection of patterns, including stripes and geometric shapes.

Caleido: flexibility, elegance, function

Caleido, Infinito. Design by Marco Piva courtesy of Caleido

Infinito is a new concept by Marco Piva for Caleido to make it possible to combine heating devices into unlimited combinations. Three basic shapes – a line, a curve, a T – define this project of essential, multiform elements that interact with surfaces.

The chrome, brushed gold, bronze, copper, satin silver, and titanium gray finishes add an ethereal dimension to the product’s relationship with light while underscoring its plasticity. The key features of the system are its modularity and flexibility, which make as good as infinite compositions possible.

Carimali: multifaceted geometries

Carimali, DSide courtesy of Carimali

Carimali was at the International Bathroom Exhibition with DSide, a collection that blends light, geometries, and dynamic surfaces to create unique bathrooms. DSide stands out for the way its beautiful shapes and details interact with the environment, giving it a distinctive character. The design focuses on simple variations on basic geometries, which establish relationships between the sides and corners to define the volume. It revolutionizes conventional balances and then recomposes them into a harmoniously attractive whole.

Cerasa: timeless elegance

Cerasa, DES Evolution courtesy of Cerasa

The main attraction at the Cerasa booth was DES Evolution, a collection that interprets and embraces contemporary style.

The products reveal Cerasa’s ongoing commitment to research and development, as it achieves a timeless elegance with refined, modern designs. The collection is a concrete example of how the firm adapts to evolving lifestyle models with products and materials that will stand the test of time. The use of innovative materials, multiple finishes, and four stylistic and chromatic variations reflect the needs of four different user profiles with different lifestyles.

Duravit: a perfect balance between form and function

Duravit, Aurena. Design by Antonio Citterio courtesy of Duravit

Aurena, a collection designed by Pier Antonio Citterio, and Sivida, by Philippe Starck are the latest offerings from Duravit. Highly versatile, Aurena is a perfect addition to the interior design of private bathrooms as well as in hotels, studios, offices, and restaurants. Designed by Antonio Citterio using the golden ratio, it’s the first complete ceramic range to be released with the new HygieneGlaze® Plus surface, which combines unrivaled hygiene with simple, ecological cleaning.

Made of DuroCast®, a recomposed mineral-based material, Sivida by Starck is a series of washbasins and bathroom furniture designed by Philippe Starck with a very attractive quality-price ratio. The combination of elements with soft but precise lines, together with a variety of color options, provides the basis for creating distinctive designs.

To mark its 30th anniversary, the elegant Starck cone now comes with an upgrade, with a wide range of colors available for sinks, furniture, and handles, combined with innovative c-bonded technology.

Effe: wellness and sharing

Effe, LOGICA PLUS. Design by Talocci+Pallocca courtesy of Effe

Effe showed off its new LOGICA PLUS sauna+hammam system at the event. Developed by Talocci+Pallocca, the product is a complete and updated reworking of its historic, and cutting-edge, LOGICA project.

As the latest evolutionary update to the Logica line, LOGICA PLUS combines sauna, hammam, and shower in a single product. The emphasis here is on sharing, inspired by the relaxation and socializing typical of saunas and Turkish baths. Externally, a lightweight sand-colored aluminum structure connects and harmonizes the two areas with their different materials, including stoneware for the hammam and heat-treated wood for the sauna. The relationship between the two parts is underscored by the benches and a mirrored band that creates a sense of depth. LOGICA PLUS is available in different versions, each designed to meet specific customer needs: SH, SPA, and MID.

Gessi: interlocking and overlapping

Gessi, INCASTRI. Design by Kengo Kuma courtesy of Gessi

Among the new products from Gessi was INCASTRI, a collection created in collaboration with Kengo Kuma. The collection draws its inspiration from chidori, ancient Japanese toys with interlocking, overlapping parts, which Kuma frequently incorporates into his work.

INCASTRI’s pure, minimalist design is the result of its innovative system for reducing the dimensions of its working parts. This means that each object can integrate harmoniously into the surrounding architecture in an interplay of joints and lines. Different versions, finishes, and accessories are available, all intended to help decrease water usage in the interests of sustainability.

GRAFF: combating water waste

Graff, Art of Bath courtesy of Graff

Laufen, MEDA courtesy of Laufen

Created by the Swiss designer Peter Wirz for LAUFEN, the MEDA collection comprises a large selection of washbasins that stand out for their extremely linear, clean designs. The collection includes a range of versions, some with a certain asymmetry, that provide large, flat surrounds without compromising the cleanliness and lightness of the design.

Dimensions range from the 17 3/4 x 9 1/4” (450x235 mm) hand basin with offset drainage up to the large 147 /4” (1200 mm) washbasin and the 51 1/8” (1300 mm) double washbasin. The range is available in gloss and matte ceramic, LCC ceramic, and black and graphite tones with a matte finish.

QuadroDesign: an eco-sustainable water source

QuadroDesign, Thumb. Design by Giacomo Moor courtesy of QuadroDesign

QuadroDesign and designer Giacomo Moor joined forces to create Thumb faucets and handles. The range was initially conceived as an addition to the K.01, K.02, and K.03 kitchen collections, also designed by Moor. Thumb faucets feature distinctive shapes with small sections of material removed to create ergonomic recesses for the hand.

This design reflects QuadroDesign’s commitment to sustainability through the use of durable, non-toxic AISI316L steel and promoting the use of filtration systems for pure, eco-friendly water.

RAK, RAK-Skin courtesy of RAK

Roca was at the event with Nu, a collection created in collaboration with Studio Inma Bermúde that includes three different faucets available in six glossy colors, each inspired by the firm’s Mediterranean roots. Pin, Dome, and Stripe levers give each faucet a unique character, while details like red and blue dots, indicating hot and cold, add a playful touch.

Treesse, Aquarun. Design by Marc Sadler courtesy of Treesse

Treesse presented Aquarun, a resistance pool designed by Marc Sadler. Developed in conjunction with experts in flow dynamics from the University of Trieste, Aquarun has a special water circulation system that creates an incredibly realistic swimming experience. The pool, designed to encourage the movement of the water and adapt to the swimmer’s movements, offers a wide range of uses, from simple pleasure to therapy and sports training.

The propellers are hidden to both improve the pool’s appearance and provide a comfortable seat. A mirror on the bottom makes it possible to keep an eye on your swimming action.
