Mont-Saint-Michel Opening
By Editorial Staff -

After ten years of studies and ten of construction the project of restoration of the Mont Saint-Michel’s maritime character is coming to an end and the mountain is again an island.
The Jetty designed by Dietmar Feichtinger opened for pedestrians in July 2014, and for shuttles in December 2014. The last operation of demolition of the old dam road (built in 1879) has finally given back to the Mont its original maritime character.  To celebrate this new phase of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Syndicat Mixte Baie du Mont Saint-Michel organizes an opening night on Friday October 16th 2015 to highlight the new jetty and dam.
An art and light installation by the team Kontakt / Mathilde Meignan / Spectrum Lab set the bridge and the dam in scene. The water winds its way through the arabesques of the sandy bay like a dancer. The water of the river and the sea is highlighted, accompanied by an artistic suggestion of to the two elegant sailboats La Cancalaies and La Granvillaise, to remember the times when the surroundings of the rock were navigable – which is again the case.
