miart 2024 opens its doors in Milan from Friday, April 12 to Sunday, April 14. The 28th edition of the international fair dedicated to modern and contemporary art is organized by Fiera Milano and directed for the fourth year by Nicola Ricciardi.

Taking place at Allianz MiCo in Viale Scaramposi, miart 2024 presents 20th-century masterpieces – from Balla to de Chirico, from Schiele to Picabia – as well as new works by renowned contemporary artists such as David Hockney, Francis Alys, Rosa Barba and Monica Bonvicini.

miart 2024: "no time no space"

This year’s theme no time no space, inspired by Franco Battiato’s song, highlights the initiative’s mission to broaden its geographical and temporal boundaries.

178 galleries from 28 countries will participate in this year’s edition. Two new sections conceived as interdimensional portals or time machines will be introduced, introducing more than 1,000 works from contemporary artists and masters and ten prizes to be awarded during the event.

The exhibition will include miartalks, a three-day debates program with three different focuses: “Images in motion and music” on Friday, “Architecture and design” on Saturday, “Museums and other institutions” on Sunday.

miart Sections: Established, Portal, Emergent

Established, miart 2024’s main section, hosts both 20th and contemporary galleries, offering a wide selection of works that range from modern art to recent installations. Galleries dedicated to collectible and signature design will also have their space, with particular attention to the relations between visual and applied arts.

Within Established is Timescape, one of the brand-new themed sections, an exhibition project curated directly by the fair. Timescape will be developed over the next three years and will present to the public works created in eras increasingly remote in time with respect to the fair’s traditional chronological offerings.

This year’s miart edition also introduces Portal, a section curated by Abaseh Mirvali and conceived as a window to look to the present through parallel dimensions and unconventional prisms. Deliberately anachronistic, Portal hosts nine galleries offering as many small exhibitions designed to discover or rediscover universes and artistic practices that are only seemingly distant.

Emergent, the section curated by Attilia Fattori Franchini and reserved to galleries focusing on recent generation artists, is also making a comeback.
