Maximo Shopping Center: a new urban focal point
By Editorial Staff -

"Maximo Shopping Center. Una nuova realtà urbana – A New Focal Point" is a new book in THE PLAN Editions series dedicated to a shopping mall designed by 3C+t Capolei Cavalli Architetti Associati in Rome.

“We realized that going to the mall was not about shopping: it was a leisure time destination, a place to meet, fall in love, take your kids on a fun day out whatever their age, in complete safety and comfort, without having to worry about driving round for hours looking for a parking space or the dangers of rain; going to the mall is synonymous with “not making plans”, simply entering an artificial world with a full and varied selection of stuff, where you can decide what to do once you get there.” — From the opening chapter, “Yet another Shopping Center for Rome. Why?” by architects Fabrizio and Pierfrancesco Capolei

Located in Rome’s Laurentino district and designed by 3C+t Capolei Cavalli, the Maximo Shopping Center was envisaged as a place for shopping and, especially, spending leisure time. The complex, completed in 2020, has 160 businesses, including stores, restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues, as well as a large open plaza that can host cultural and recreational events. From an architectural point of view, the inspiration for the building’s design was the shape of a whale, the aim being to arouse people’s curiosity and attract them inside. The interiors benefit from a great deal of natural light via skylights and were designed according to a scale of values that puts people first.
