Another major success for Luceplan: the Ascent lamp designed by Daniel Rybakken in 2013 has won the prestigious Compasso d’Oro ADI award for 2016, in the category Design for Living, assigned by the Association for Industrial Design ADI. An amazing sequence of victories for the winning team of Luceplan and the designer Daniel Rybakken, with the second consecutive Compasso d’Oro after the one received in 2014 for the Counterbalance lamp.
And a double Honorable Mention at the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2016, for the evocative and technological lamps Synapse and Tango, both made possible by the ongoing collaboration between Luceplan and Francisco Gomez Paz.
Founded in 1954, the Compasso d’Oro ADI award is the oldest and most authoritative prize for industrial design in the world, selecting products that stand out for their originality and functional-typological innovation, production processes, the materials used and the formal synthesis achieved.
Already selected for publication in the ADI Design Index 2014 and winner of the important Red Dot Design Award 2014 in the Product Design category, the Ascent lamp has brought Luceplan this new honor, confirming the excellence of the Milan-based company in the lighting design industry, and the fertile, brilliant collaboration with the talented Norwegian designer Daniel Rybakken, factors that have led to the creation of objects that stand out for in-depth technological research, a high level of innovative, aesthetic and functional content, and impeccable formal quality.

Intimate and conceptual, Ascent offers many degrees of light intensity, thanks to very precise dimming made possible by the electronic circuit installed in the head of the lamp.
The fundamental innovation is the unusual gesture with which the lamp is turned on and off, and the light is regulated. It is a vertical movement, making the small shade slide along the thin stem with a fluid, continuous motion, downward or upward. A novel gesture that in its simplicity actually conceals a complex process of invention and implementation.
Essential in its look, sophisticated in its technology, conceptual for the way it expresses an idea of light, Ascent is an object of forceful poetic content, halfway between emotion and reason, a magical object due to the innovative character of the gesture and the immediacy of the technical lighting effects it provides.
To add to its already numerous trophies, Luceplan has also received two Honorable Mentions for the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2016, for the innovative Synapse and Tango lamps, selected for the ADI Design Index respectively in 2014 and 2015, both results of the creative brilliance of the Argentine designer Francisco Gomez Paz, with whom the company that is the leader of lighting design Made in Italy has an fertile ongoing working relationship.
Halfway between object and architecture, Synapse is a futuristic and innovative modular system composed of luminous “cells” with a Y-shaped form and variable color, thanks to the insertion of three RGB LEDs. The cells interlock, giving rise to an infi nite and intriguing variety of possible confi gurations. This is Synapse: a new type of product, a system that represents the new frontier of decorative lighting, making it possible to create luminous spatial dividers that are always different and unique.
The innovative Tango model is a floor lamp for indirect lighting, in which the designer has metaphorically transfi gured the harmonious and sensual movements of the dance for which it is named, giving the fixture sinuous, dynamic appeal: the jointed structure of the lamp, composed of three mobile stems in aluminium with elastomer joints, makes it possible to gently adjust the direction of the light with a simple gesture, for warm, uniform brightness.
