Completed in 2017, the 56 Leonard luxury residential tower born thanks to the collaboration between Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron and Alexico group is a recent addition to the famous New York City skyline, located in the Tribeca district. The project’s philosophy, which sees all apartments - 145 on 60 floors - maintaining the privacy of all users within, has been transferred into all rooms, from the bedroom to the kitchen through to the bathroom.
Here the architects have chosen to rely on the century-old expertise of Laufen, which in this project supplied 267 single washbasins, 144 double washbasins and 142 bathtubs designed specifically after the architects’ design and installed in the marble bathrooms. 577 Palomba WCs were also provided with an opaque white finishing with “Laufen 56 Leonard” carved on them. The bathtubs were realized with Sentec resin and resemble the shape of a pill.
Laufen’s involvement in this high-profile project demonstrates the extent to which it is able to create bespoke elements, tailored to the designers’ and clients’ specifications. The result demonstrates the power of cooperation that is at the core of Laufen’s philosophy, which works and dialogues continuously alongside professionals involved.
