Designed by agmm Architekten + Stadtplaner with Hable Architekten, the “gemeinsam größer II” residential development in Munich was conceived to encourage social interaction between residents and save on transport costs. The complex not only offers every resident the chance to personalize their home, but also combines private dwellings with a series of community-dedicated spaces. These include a large multipurpose common room, a guest apartment, a workshop, gardens, and a kids’ playroom.
LignoAlp® by DAMIANI-HOLZ&KO a Brixen-based company involved in timber since 1927, oversaw the design of all the timber elements. With this such a large project, LignoAlp® by DAMIANI-HOLZ&KO opted for advanced prefabrication to fully exploit the properties of timber. Everything relating to the walls – from the windows to the window doors, sunshading, and timber paneling – was made in the factory. This required the utmost precision, beginning with the creative phase. Everything down to the battens was assembled with millimeter precision to not only produce a visually striking effect, but also to avoid any surprises during final assembly.
Gemeinsam größer II fa parte del più esteso quartiere ecologico della Germania. La città di Monaco è infatti molto sensibile al tema della Gemeinsam größer II is part of Germany’s largest ecodistrict. Munich itself is, in fact, very much in tune with the issue of sustainability, which has seen it build among the largest number of timber homes of any city. Besides reducing construction times, timber is an environmentally friendly material. According to data provided by the Municipality of Munich, timber construction has led to a 13 thousand ton reduction in CO2 emissions in the greater Munich area compared to the use of the usual building systems.
