Participating in the 40th Cersaie exhibition with SYN, Gruppo Cerdisa Ricchetti showcased a project that’s distinguished by a marked interpenetration of colors, surfaces, and sensations – an ambitious project without any visual support other than itself. The product occupied centerstage of the exhibition space, with all the collections placed in synergy with it, highlighting the way they were created to harmoniously coexist to create one-of-a-kind spaces. This harmony is described by a concept that the firm has called Synthetic Nature to indicate that GCR collections aren’t simply copies of things present in nature, but are inspired by, and aspire to go beyond, them, with every product the result of chemistry, technology, and human ingenuity, while also being replicable on an industrial scale.

The concept of Synthetic Nature takes concrete form in the exhibited Fluids and Pearls collections. (Pearls was a very special sneak preview, with the product being released in 2024.) Both embody a provocation and an ambition to push ceramic surfaces beyond the conventional stereotypes to the point of recreating in ceramicware the effect of non-material elements, such as air and water.
With Fluids, GCR has harnessed artificial intelligence to model shapes inspired by ink drawings of the iconography of liquid crystal. It’s a large format tile with perfectly rectified edges that enhance its mirror-finished surface.
Pearls draws poetic inspiration from the sky and the way its colors shift with the changing weather. At Cersaie 2023, the firm showcased Clear Sky with the new Honed surface, which is matte and silky, gently reflecting light and transparencies like a painting. This was an exclusive preview that anticipates the product’s official launch in 2024.
