Duvali: Light from Nature

While cacti typically thrive in the warmest, driest regions of the world, some also manage to live on the edges of perpetually snow-covered areas. Distinguished by their often bizarre shapes and flowers, they’re also the centerpiece of many gardens. Italian outdoor lighting design brand Landa Illuminotecnica (LND), part of the Bugatti Group, drew its inspiration from these plants – perhaps an unlikely source for design and architecture – for its new &CO/LLECTION range.

The centerpiece of the series, whose products take their names from plants of the Cactaceae family, is Duvali, an Accoya® wood lighting bollard inspired by the red-flowered Duvalia caespitosa. Available in heights of 35 cm, 69 cm, 90 cm, and 120 cm, and designed for outdoor settings, Duvali is a solid rectangle with a minimalist concave profile that uniformly directs diffused light toward the ground without glare. Ideal applications include entrance paths, sidewalks, bike lanes, parks, and parking areas.

A sense of volume, structural integrity, and excellent light distribution come together in this product, whose defining feature is its material. FSC®-certified Accoya® is an acetylated wood product manufactured to deliver a 25-year lifespan (on land and in freshwater), minimal expansion and contraction, and a negative carbon footprint over its entire life cycle. The choice of Accoya® reflects the company’s philosophy of sustainability while also providing excellent performance.

Duvali is also available in the new Accoya® Grey Wood finish, a material that brings a contemporary aesthetic to its surroundings, while being free of chemical pigments and fully recyclable.
