Designing for Musica

A reinterpretation of a musical score and the overall vision of a composer or conductor in an architectural key: this is a summary of Stauffer Academy’s project for the Center for Strings in Cremona, designed by Lamberto Rossi Associati and entirely dedicated to string instruments, located within Palazzo Stauffer, formerly Palazzo Stradiotti. The restoration project for the palazzo and garden, the result of an in-depth study of the building’s condition, identified the 19^th-century transformation of the building and its later additions at the end of the century as the structure to preserve, and in some cases, rediscover. For this reason, the project focused on demolishing much of the incongruous partitions and finishes of the 1960s, returning the building to its original layout and enhancing the architecture in a manner consistent with its history but also its new academic needs.

In this context, Erreci Architecture, a division of Erreci Sicurezza that specializes in the production of steel frames, realized more than 60 door and window frames with different types of openings and various processing. These elements ‒ despite their contemporary nature ‒ have integrated with the historical and esthetic context of the palace: the complex design considered every single element in an integrated manner, with the aim of creating harmony between the material, constructive, and dimensional varieties.

The windows and doors were custom made, according to the instructions provided by the architects, and installed by Erreci Architecture using the Secco Sistemi OS2 and EBE profiles, considering the need to balance tradition and innovation: the glass and steel door and window frames developed for this project ensure perfect thermal and acoustic isolation, which is essential for spaces intended for music practice.
