Perathoner Architects recently renovated and expanded the Hotel Granbaita Dolomites in Selva di Val Gardena, originally built in the 1960s and remodeled several times since. Redesigning the long-established hotel into a five-star facility involved installing a dark, larch wood façade with large windows to overlook the alpine landscape. The materials chosen for the interior include smoked oak wood, natural gray stone, and colorful upholstery made out of typical local fabrics.
New furniture was crafted by the Erlacher carpentry in Barbiano. Founded in 1905, the firm specializes in custom-made furniture for the hospitality and restaurant sectors, as well as for residence, store, bank and office interiors. Erlacher’s artisans offer architects and designers a guaranteed bespoke approach, developing design ideas and providing support for tailor-made design solutions down to the smallest detail.
This philosophy fully reflects the bespoke hospitality the Granbaita Hotel offers in its main building and the extension lower down the hill, a curving, one-story structure that houses the reception, bar, lounge area, dining room and new gourmet area. During renovation, a total of 35 luxury rooms and suites were redesigned and fitted with new interiors that combine tradition and elegance in a variety of accommodation solutions ranging from 25 to 80 sq. m rooms, featuring balconies and panoramic views.
All of the hotel’s rooms cosset guests with a warm, welcoming atmosphere evoked by the use of wood for the flooring and walls: parquet floorboards in the common areas, ceilings perforated to house plant decorations, and pillars shaped to resemble forest tree trunks. The bedroom walls are lined with boiserie engraved in bas-relief geometric motifs, in dialogue with colored fabrics used for the bed headboards, curtains, rugs and upholstered furniture in the living areas of the suites.
