Amerika Plads is a new development currently under construction in an ex-industrial site near Norhavn, Copenhagen. Its master plan is by Adriaan Geuze from Dutch architectural firm West 8. The development comprises homes as well as commercial and office buildings, with the aim of creating a new section of the city whose mix of functions and population density is intended to recreate the urban quality of the historic section of Copenhagen. The centre of Amerika Plads is formed by a long square. Zinc House, designed by Hvidt & Mølgaard Arkitektfirma, stands on this square. Zinc House is a large building built around a quadrangle. On the ground floor there are commercial properties and services, while on the upper levels are 60 luxury apartments, which measure between 8 and 17 squares (75 and 160 square metres). Access to the apartments is off stairwells at each corner of the building. The portico, which opens on three sides on the ground floor and also acts as a shopping arcade, provides access to the central courtyard, which is therefore accessible from the square and open to the public. The large dimensions of the facades are broken up the design of the openings - windows and balconies - and lightened the vertical design of the Rheinzink pre-weathered-pro graphite-grey titanium zinc cladding. The angled standing seam system creates neat, clearly visible lines of perspective on the facades, which, together with the inclined profile of the portico and rooftop, produce an interplay of lines and more clearly define the mass of the Zinc House within the square.
