As of 2009 Formula One calls in at Abu Dhabi, now that a new track designed by Hermann Tilke has been built on Yas Island, one of the largest natural islands off the Abu Dhabi coast. The circuit forms part of a project that includes a number of hotels, three theme parks (one of which is devoted to Ferrari), a sea front or marina, a golf club and a large commercial centre. Design and top quality products, plus a capillary distribution network, were behind the choice of Duravit as suppliers of fittings for all the Formula One bathrooms: the communal, the VIP and the ‘ID’ areas (ID standing for interior design). The architects drew on numerous Duravit series. The choice of ceramics fell on Vero, with its characteristic rectangular shape, Architec which adapts to fit any size of bathroom, and Starck 3, which is based on a square shape offered in a wide range of variants - in this case used for the disabled persons’ bathrooms. Part of the packet comprises two historic Duravit products: the Starck cone, a company icon by Philippe Starck dating from fifteen years back, here present in its range of 12 items with new lacquered gloss finishes Bianco and Nero; and the Scola washbasin which saw the light over thirty years ago: it was chosen for its design, a simple combination of a round shape and a rectangle.
