Store and Showroom Duvetica

The duvet-manufacturer Duvetica has launched its own store and showroom in Milan. This is the fourth such venture for this Venetian group, following the stores in Tokyo, Kitzbühel and Courmayeur. Tadao Ando was once again behind the design. Covering two storeys, each 220 sq m, the word “essential” underlies the design. The floors and walls are concrete and the neutral, light colours create a clean, stark interior that allows the colours of the garments on display to stand out in their closed glass showcases and open display units. This simplicity of shape is coupled with highly technological solutions, including two ultra-thin touch screens that allow customers to browse all available products and get details about colours, sizes and prices. The design plays with simplicity and minimalism, a space where the architecture is pure matter, sign and light. The store and showroom need flexibility and, to combine this with the desire to use space optimally, Erco LED-lighting was chosen. In the store and showroom, recessed lighting was favoured, using electrified tracks in the display areas. In the office sections, the lighting is also recessed, both in the floor and the ceiling. In the store, recessed Quintessence downlight lamps illuminate the entrance area, while recessed Quintessence LED wall washers were placed in the ceiling to provide a warm white light for the concrete walls. The same series, but in the RGBW version, has been used to illuminate the interior walls where products are displayed. With RGBW lights, it is possible to adjust the tone of the while light to provide optimal lighting for the colours on display. In the showroom, the track-mounted Logotec LED spotlights, with interchangeable Spherolit lenses, provide real display flexibility. The light sphere can be changed to flood, wide flood, oval flood or wall washer, depending on the lighting needed, simply by replacing the Spherolit lenses. The Nadir LED wall washers, with recessed floor luminaires, provide bottom-up diffused lighting for the walls. The entire lighting system is managed by Erco’s DALI Light System, which has pre-programmed lighting options for the various display needs. In this design by Ando, masterful construction, craft skill, simplicity and rigour are combined with advanced technology to create a marriage characterised by extreme simplicity and naturalness.
