The exhibition “Klimahaus 8 Grad Ost” describes a journey around the globe following 8° longitude from the city of Bremerhaven through Switzerland, Sardinia, Nigeria, the Cameroon Republic, Antarctica, Samoa, Alaska and Langeness in the German Wattenmeer. A video charting the journey contains interviews with inhabitants from the places visited, while scenarios inspired by the various waystages have been reproduced, illustrating the climate conditions so that the visitor can get a first-hand impression. Two display areas show the natural and physical parameters relating to climate, how this has changed and how living beings will be affected.
Given the total absence of natural light sources, lighting for the exhibition was entrusted to lighting experts Angela Tiedt and Florian Reissmann from tdrei Lichtplanung. Their choice fell on Regent and a modified version from the Poco spotlight which proved to be the product that best fitted the bill. Lighting for an exhibition needs to be flexible: when you are planning it, you don’t know exactly what works or graphics will need lighting. The Klimahaus also called for design discretion and a version available in both discharge lamps and low-wattage halogen lamps using an integrated potentiometer so that spotlight brightness could be adjusted individually. Other accessories required were honeycomb antiglare louvers and dichroitic glass filters for permanent colour accents. Around 380 Poco spotlights were modified with discharge lamps from 20 to 150W, and about 470 halogen low-watt spotlights had integrated potentiometers.
