Lugo || Spain
Long a source of inspiration for artists, composers and authors, the Isla Pancha Lighthouse rises above the Ría de Ribadeo bay in Galicia, an autonomous community of Spain. Here, the Eo river flows into the Cantabrian Sea in a nature reserve with a vibrant ecosystem that is home to many different animals and plants. Dating from 1857, the lighthouse remained active until 1983, when security concerns forced its closure and resulted in a new, black-and-white striped circular structure being built. Today, it is now the first lighthouse in Spain where you can stay. The old building nestles amid delightful nature and was recently revamped to form two tourist accommodation units. The design for this was by PF1 Interiorismo, a practice specializing in hotels and tourist facilities. The project carefully maintained the charm of this wonderful
setting, long the home of the lighthouse guardian, by respecting the essential features and highlighting key original elements (e.g. balustrades and flooring), but also making it more comfortable and welcoming. The square plan is centered on the old light, with the two apartments then spread around this, consisting of a bedroom, living area with kitchen and bathroom. The use of the Eclisse Syntesis Line®, without any external finishings, was vital in optimizing the integration between doors and walls as these sliding doors require far less space than hinged doors, which would have become an obstacle to the free flow between environments. The flush-with-wall Eclisse Syntesis® skirting board, with integrated LED lights, adds the final touch both in the rooms, creating soft lighting, and in the corridors, where it not only marks the route, but also exalts the original flooring.
