Top-level manufacturing processes and the constant quest for technological and design innovation make ceramic tiles an ideal support for reproducing a colour, a decorative motif or a surface texture. Grounded in an age-old tradition of Italian craftsmanship, the ceramic tile combines aesthetic versatility, strength and resistance to wear, suiting it to any location, be it the home, a public building, industry, urban furnishings or outdoor expanses. There are tiles that mimic natural stone. One such is Perigord by Cotto d’Este Nuove Superfici which reproduces one of the most attractive French stones, harnessing inkjet decorative technology. Perigord comes in three colours: Eau de roche (grey), Clair de lune (creamy white) and Pierre foncée (anthracite). Another is Edilcuoghi Ceramiche’s Pietra Aniciana, the ancient name for basalt rock which is an elegant dark grey colour. Also available in beige or light grey, this full-thickness coloured porcelain stoneware includes a decorated version and combines the looks of natural rock with all the advantages of porcelain stoneware. Marmo D Wall by Impronta Ceramiche is a wall tile exploiting digital technology to reproduce the gleaming contrasts of fine marble. It may be rectified or not, and is suitable in combination with ridged motifs and floral reliefs. The feature of Ceramiche Refin’s Tracce is to reproduce the passage of time upon matter: the surface texture may resemble flaking plaster, roughcast cement or exposed old brickwork. Simplicity, subtlety and sustainability are the watchwords with Bambù by Cedir (Ceramiche di Romagna), a porcelain stoneware that helped win them LEED credits. Bambù’s colours and graphic sobriety make it extremely versatile. Simple & Classic by Ceramica Fioranese uses tone-on-tone floral decoration to simple yet elegant effect. Shades of Sardinian architecture and the island’s ceramic tradition can be detected in Cotto Glamour by Cerasarda, a hand-crafted wax-finish enamel in a lively colour range. Bi+Fusion technology lies behind Ceramica Fondovalle’s Murano collection. A double-pressed enamelled porcelain stoneware, Murano comes in four formats with a wealth of mosaic and trim options. The distinguishing feature of Swing by Supergres is its strong colours (white, beige, blue, navy, lilac and purple) and an elegant sense of movement to its surface scoring; it can be composed in tone-on-tone mosaic form, with gleaming floral trims or a fine-striped polychrome motif by way of alternative. Cosmica by Abitare la ceramica (Gresmalt) is available in four colours, Copper, Black, Beige and Pearl, each with a misty kind of softening. Cosmica has skirting to match all its colours and can be given a metallic effect if combined with a steel trim. Colour is likewise the key to Visionary by Fap Ceramiche, a rectified wall-tile collection using a shiny enamelled white tile mix. The colour shades are up-to-date and extremely easy to mix and match; there are also trims and motifs that conjure bathrooms of yesteryear, a hint of retro blending with the ultra-modern.
