Fishermen’s tears - Jetzt, Woonderlux - Light effects and technology

Ingo Maurer has participated in the project

Since the mid-Sixties Ingo Maurer have been producing lighting systems and installations distinguished for their revolutionary design and painstaking quest for the latest technological solution.
For Fishermen’s Tears, one of their latest creations, the designer was inspired by the memory of fishermen’s nets hanging out to dry in the Venice lagoon, the beaded drops of water glistening in the sun. This prompted a lighting system composed of three different-sized nylon nets dotted with 350 glass beads which catch the light cast by a wall-mounted lamp.
Jetzt, designed by Axel Schmid, is a clean geometrical table tamp fitted with an 8.5 W LED. A single anodised aluminium profile bends to form the three feet on which it stands and the bulb socket. Jetzt is available in yellow, black and blue.
Ingo Maurer’s latest project, Woonderlux, looks like a classic incandescent lamp, but the glass bulb is empty: the LED light source is hidden inside the socket. Technically, Woonderlux can be made in various versions, for 12 or 24 volts. A high-voltage version is currently in the planning phase. In that case the bulb will be screwed into a traditional E27 socket, without requiring a transformer.
