BIM systems and methodologies - The future of design

Architectural, engineering and infrastructure design are changing fast and significantly, partly because of the development of BIM and the type of opportunities offered by this process. Using BIM methodology to manage a project gives the designer tools that speed up the design process, simplify communication and exchange between the various parties and make it possible to easily check on and manage project components and stages. Such aspects greatly cut the risk of errors, facilitating work on the building site and simplifying the post-creation management stage.
Detailed graphic rendering is a key feature for communicating with clients and other stakeholders as they can easily understand the design. And, of course, it also makes it easier for professionals in the sector!
An increasing number of institutions and private clients require designers to use the BIM process, which thus guarantees great competitiveness, including in competitions and tenders.
Autodesk’s response to this change in how projects are created and disseminated has been to provide updated software solutions that guarantee integration with cloud services, increased usability and flexible subscription options to allow companies that have adopted BIM to remain competitive and guaranteeing, for those who plan to adopt it, the necessary flexibility to do so with ease.
The Autodesk Suite has a number of new features, including increased integration into the BIM workflow, with the new option to use Navisworks to attach and view BIM models directly inside AutoCAD.
Autodesk Recap makes it possible to include data from laser scans and photographs in the design process, thus facilitating both restoration/renovation projects and infrastructure works.
Autodesk Building Design Suite includes Revit, which has features like navigation during redraw, calculation setting options, faster linked file display and the inclusion of MEP fabrication detailing. Navisworks has features for user interoperability, while 3ds Max improves display quality and file import speeds.
For infrastructure work, the Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suites have enhanced workflows between the preliminary engineering and detailed design stages, better collaboration with extended data exchange capabilities and advanced project organisation and management tools to help optimise material use, times and costs. The Autodesk Plant Design Suite also includes software to support multi-discipline workflows, aiding data and information sharing between team members to improve efficiency and speed.
Working with BIM software makes it possible to handle all levels of project complexity, regardless of the scale or stage, using an inter-discipline workflow that provides ever greater connection between the design and the work. In short, it genuinely drives forward working methods in the design field.
