From June 10th to 13th the Alto Adige was the venue for “alpitecture code 2-10”, a platform for new ideas about the Alps in terms of technology and architecture. The platform was proposed by ap35 and initiated by EOS. - South Tyrol Export Organisation of the Bolzano Chamber of Commerc - and is supported by businesses in the province of South Tyrol. The event was attended by 37 architecture practices of international calibre and experts in various fields. They compared notes on the state of the art in Alpine architecture, both research and production. Nestling between the eastern and the western Alps, the Alto Adige is both Alpine and Mediterranean in geography and culture. Its rich diversity forms an ideal framework for thinking about the Alps as an extreme environment, about architecture as an organized living environment, and about technology in the future. The three days saw alternating reports and lectures by those attending, with round tables and visits to examples of Alto Adige architecture and sponsor firms. The event concluded with three parallel workshops on the subjects: “Urbanisation of village structures and natural spaces”; “Integrative architecture and energy systems”; and “Potential of artisan estates and manufacturing divisions”.alpitecture’s long-term goals are to boost international appreciation for quality architecture as well as to create synergies that lead to the establishment of a relationship between manufacturing companies and high-quality architecture.
