On the occasion of the centenary of Finland's Independence (Suomi 100), Rome’s Casa dell’Architettura is to host the “Architecture in Finland. From Alvar Aalto to new generations. Talk with Avanto Architects and Design Office KOKO3” conference on Tuesday 17th October 2017, at 2.30 p.m. The initiative is promoted by Casa dell’Architettura (House of Architecture’s Technical and Scientific Committee), the Ordine degli Architetti P.P.C. di Roma e provincia (Chamber of Architects of the City and province of Rome), and Roma Capitale, and curated by architect Arianna Callocchia. It has been organized together with ATL – Association of Finnish Architects’ Offices with the patronage of the Embassy of Finland in Italy, the Consiglio Nazionale degli Architetti Pianificatori Paesaggisti e Conservatori (Italian Council of Architects) and the Facoltà di Architettura, Sapienza Università di Roma (Faculty of Architecture, Sapienza University of Rome).
The conference, which builds upon the official programme of the centenary of Finland's Independence, aims at displaying the key role that Alvar Aalto played in modern architecture and analyzing his influence on Finland’s contemporary architecture.
Following a welcome address from Alfonso Giancotti, President of the Casa dell’Architettura, Alessandro Ridolfi, President of the Chamber of Architects of the City and province of Rome, and Mr. Janne Taalas, the Ambassador of Finland in Italy, architect and curator Arianna Callocchia will present the initiative.
The conference will start with the “Identity of Finnish architecture. Beyond Alvar Aalto” speech by Antonello Alici, Assistant Professor, History of Architecture, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, and will continue with two speeches by Anu Puustinen, SAFA Architect, Avanto Architects Ltd, Helsinki, and Helka Parkkinen, SAFA Architect, Design Office KOKO3 Ltd, Helsinki, who will present some of their most recent projects to show how buildings are currently made in Finland and discuss the legacy that Alvar Aalto passed on to new generations.
