Diesel with Foscarini
Tool celebrates work wear, one of Diesel’s recurring themes, and reinvents the vintage atmosphere of mechanics’ garages and workshops. Tool’s shape and materials are also inspired by the charm of industrial archaeology. Revisiting the robust geometry of industrial equipment, the Tool range transforms solid shapes into hollow forms to be used for illumination. This range of lamps has actually been created with a single body of rubber, which brings to mind the shape of a foundry mould or a mechanical part of a lathe. The impression created is that of an object straight off the production line ready to be inserted into the domestic environment - breaking all common design rules and conventional aesthetic guidelines. The finish of the lamp is purposely irregular, like a semifinished piece just taken out of its mould. The Tool range includes suspended, floor and table lamps, in black. Suspended lamps come in small and large sizes The smaller version also forms the basis for the reading and table light, shaped by a black metal stem and rough cement base. The materials chosen - rubber, metal and cement - all tell a story: they are strong materials, which bring to mind the building site, the mechanic’s garage, the world of work. All models within the Tool range produce accurate and direct illumination, just like authentic lighting ‘tools’.
Rock provides dramatic visual impact and strong contrasts. The hanging lamp recalls volcanic rock split to reveal a clear, sparkling crystal inside through its contrasting dark, external surface, rough to the touch, and its casually sculpted and the shiny, iridescent interior. The captivating form and dark colour, lightly flecked with golden speckles, gives Rock an aura of mystery. Hundreds of asymmetric facets inside the lamp reflect the beams of light. With its striking, unforgettable features and unmistakeable, architectural shape, Rock is a strongly decorative element that is ideal for both public and private spaces.
Pipe is Diesel’s interpretation of the classic shaded lamp which becomes a protagonist in the space thanks to its large size and striking appearance. A pure form inspired by visible tubing in factories, made more gentle by the use of fabric that covers it and transforms it into a lamp with soft, elegant shapes. The material is dirty linen; rough, bleached linen that expresses all of Diesel’s know-how in the world of jeans. The lighter, more natural version creates an elegant luminous effect made all the more striking because of its unique fabric texture. The darker version features a fabric that is highlighted by a unique and very sophisticated decoration; Rubber Print. This fabric is a cylindrical silk-screen print using a rubber-effect ink. This creates a mixture of natural line and artificial rubber; two opposites that coexist to grant the model a strong personality. This luminous effect also has a very striking effect. The print, which is particularly dense at the base, spreads out, branch by branch towards the diffuser, giving off a warm light that diffuses delicately into the space. Pipe comes in three sizes – two floor versions and one table version. This lamp is ideal in both home and contract environments as well as in very large spaces. Pipe perfectly ties in with Diesel’s style; a style with impact and a strong personality that dares to astonish with an original touch that is never out of place.
The inspiration for Perf comes from afar in terms of both distance and time. With an easy and friendly disposition that works well in all rooms of the house, this design is characterised by its airy nature and fascinating illuminated holes, which seem like a code to be deciphered. The original idea was taken from traditional North African perforated lamps, yet Perf is a contemporary and technologically advanced product. Perf is completely made of metal and yet is light and easy to move around. At first sight, Perf surprises the onlooker with its perforated diffuser, whose prominent shape brings to mind the visor of a coat of arms or the beak of an animal. Small holes form an irregular pixelated pattern, allowing light to be softly filtered for a magic, almost hypnotic effect. The hinging joint of the diffuser’s main body adjusts the direct beam of light and reflects weaving patterns of light onto surfaces and walls. A completely original light fitting, for many different uses, destined to accompany even the most diverse moments of one’s life: in the bedroom, or in the living room, to read by or to study by. With aluminium chrome, black, green and eye catching rust brown finishes to choose from, Perf is available as a wall, floor or table lamp, all with an adjustable diffuser, for a soft and, direct light effect.
A diffuser with twelve ribs evoking the typical fragmentation of the light spectrum and a style that ironically reflects 70s thrillers. This is where Mysterio (Mystery) gets its name. A lamp with a strong and original mark, typical of Diesel products. Mysterio is an eye of light that penetrates the room; a luxurious object with its texture and infinite light refraction. This diffuser is made from polycarbonate with a metallic finish on the inner surface to make it reflective. But Mysterio doesn't reflect its surroundings - only itself. Mysterio comes in wall, ceiling and pendant versions in two colour variants: a warm, copper finish and a silver finish evoking antique mirrors. Mysterio is suitable for various living areas; the applique version is a small, decorative patch of light while the pendant version is perfect even for contract spaces, over tables or counters, particularly as part of a set.
A reinterpretation of the classic work light used in warehouses and factories worldwide, which has become a furnishing style icon. The use of fine materials, like glass, the silver-coloured surface that recalls metal and the addition of details – for example, the chain in the hanging version – make Glas a true decorative element. The glass diffuser has a chrome-plated aluminium finish that guarantees a mirror effect when the light is off that vanishes when it is turned on. Glas illuminates the environment with a warm, suffused light with a retro feel. The diffuser is completely closed and the craftsmanship of the glass (the material used instead of metal in the original model) was a real challenge. Glas is available in hanging and table versions and can be used in both public and private spaces, transforming them into creative laboratories, like workshops for new trends.
Fork is an ironic lamp inspired by the casual world of the campsite and campers. The canvas shade has typical tent stitching, with deliberately visible fabric layers. The metal structure of the base is joined to the diffuser by two metal rings reminiscent of those used to fix tents and the warm, suffused light is typical of tents lit from the inside. What recalls the roots of Diesel style - jeans – are the quality of the fabric and the type of workmanship. Fork is a real furnishing element. The base is in dark metal, while the diffuser is available in two colours: rope, for a very natural effect, and black. The light is soft and direct, creating a warm, luminous effect, meaning that the lamp fits perfectly in a relaxation area. Fork is available in floor and table versions. The latter has been designed to be extremely flexible and to act as a desk or table light. The diffuser can be orientated as you wish thanks to the two rings of the lampshade, which have a special high tech device that allows complete rotation around the axis of the bulb.
An object with immediate appeal, like the Disney character Dewey that inspired its name, this lamp has a thick base like a large duck’s foot. Both playful and functional, Duii was created like a builder toy that could easily be taken apart and put together. The adjustable arm, made up of four metal elements held together by butterfly screws, is joined exactly like a piece of a “Meccano” set, the famous model construction system. The pressed glass and metal diffuser were inspired by the iconic shape of the headlights of classic cars. However, one can also see a worker’s helmet or even the punk overtones of a shaved head with a Mohawk, like the Mohican that is Diesel’s traditional symbol with its punk, rebellious personality. The light is direct and focussed on the surface on which the lamp rests. It is ideal in a home with a youthful style, on a table, consol or bedside table. The base also acts as a handy place to put paperclips or other small objects. Duii’s strong personality stands out in its two exclusive colours: yellow, for a Working Class style, and grey, which emphasizes its industrial roots. Both have the unmistakeable Diesel with Foscarini style.
Drumbox is ultimately versatile. Every detail has been designed to this end. Drumbox is a floor lamp, suspension lamp and hook-on lamp all at the same time. It can be positioned freely, wherever required, or even in multiples on a single stem. The special feature of Drumbox is the new use of hi-tech fashion fabrics normally seen in technical clothing. This lamp is an expression of Diesel's expertise in producing materials and fabrics and in providing truly unique combinations. In terms of form, Drumbox is suggestive of lamps used on photography sets. The front of the lamp is made from naturally crinkled coated linen; a highly technical and reflective material that is both warm and striking when illuminated. The back section of the lamp is made from rip-stop nylon; a strong, extremely light, technical nylon with a special texture. The zippered seams, in contrasting black are heat set; a special treatment borrowed from diving gear. Even the most technical and functional details of Drumbox become decorative and stylish! Drumbox comes in two colour variants: white with futuristic fluorescent yellow accents - for a light, luminous effect; and grey (is there another contrasting colour here? - that casts a diffuse light that more obviously reveals the light source. A young, super casual lamp in true Diesel style.
Cage was inspired by old lanterns: it has a simple luminous body protected by a decorative cage. In Diesel’s interpretation, the contrast between the metallic grille of the irregular structure, with its almost handmade feel and the inner brilliant diffuser, gives the lamp its particular appeal. Cage is available in three colours , each with a different character. The detail of its tapered stand also adds an extra touch of glamour. In white, Cage is elegant and delicate; in black it is very cool, while in light green it recalls the pop atmosphere of the ’60s and ’70s. The lamp has a dual soul: the colour of the diffuser changes depending on whether the lamp is on or off. When it is off, the full, strong colours reflect the design of the cage on the shiny surface; once turned on the body fills with light and changes colour: for example, black transforms into aubergine. Cage produces an almost magical light of differing intensity. Cage is available in hanging, floor and table versions. A variation on the table model, rendering it multi-functional, was inspired by construction-site work lights: it sits in a tripod stand but can be freely positioned anywhere you want. In the floor version the light is projected towards the ceiling, while in the hanging model it is focussed on the surface below. Cage fits well into both unusual and traditional environments and is therefore a great choice for a range of homes.
