Course Description This course examines an urban restoration project that fuses with the scale and fabric of the surrounding neighborhood. The new architecture fits effortlessly into its surrounds, becoming an integral part of the urban scene. The project by architecture practice Bolles+Wilson is an exemplar of how to plan and create new architecture that mingles with the existing fabric yet at the same time is a landmark for urban renewal.
The course comprises an introductory text, photographs, concept sketches giving a clear idea of the planning process, and technical and construction detail drawings with legends.
On completing the course, the reader will have a full understanding of how the new functions were included without disrupting the city fabric. The student will be able to describe the technologies and materials used in project execution.
