Characteristics of the Book
The book presents Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi’s recently built winery “L’Ammiraglia”. Located near the town of Magliano in Tuscany, the building was designed by architects Piero Sartogo and Nathalie Grenon and completed in the summer of 2009. A full cycle production unit, it houses the various wine making and storage areas, offices and also visitor facilities for wine tasting and purchase. Using the interview format, Nicola Leonardi, editor-in-chief of the architecture journal The Plan, speaks with the architects and their clients, Marchesi Frescobaldi, about the reasons behind this new production site whose architecture combines tradition and modernity to blend seamlessly into the Tuscany landscape. Articles by Damien Vigny, Mario Botta, Augusto Mazzini and Richard Meier complete the description of this extraordinary achievement. The photos do full justice to the magnificent Tuscan countryside and the new architecture that fits effortlessly into its historic surrounds. Drawings and original sketches for the project provide further insights into the story of an exceptional work.
