BASIS
The client, as the tenant of the castle, wants to restore the existing ruins. The aim is to offer as intriguing and flexible content as possible, for it to make the Castle market-oriented. The proposal is addressing the castle's surroundings, as the viewing tower would be situated on the north-eastern part of the castle's slope; outside the castle area (which isn't under protection of The Institute of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia).
ARCHITECTURAL - PROGRAM DESIGN
The area of the castle becomes an experience park, based on the presentation of ruins, its open spaces and, last but not least, the sightseeing tower.
The design builds on three interconnected architectural-programme blocks, which are wind around the historical traces of the castle and can be realized separately in stages.
The first element is a circular path. The second element is the central interconnecting element of the various levels of the castle. The third element is the entrance wooden portal and the lookout tower.

DESIGN IMPLEMENTATION:
A – EXPERIENCE PATH
The chosen element is based on the "train of death-rollercoaster" trajectory at the mental level of space experience in an amusement park that creates an adrenaline path. There is a circular path that encompasses the whole adventure path of the castle, which winds up and down. It enables us to experience all the structures; the defense wall, the tower, the palace spaces and the chapel. It connects the entrance portal, staircase, then circulates around the walls and continues in the defense tower and leads us back over reconstructed defense wall to the central platform.
B – STAIRCASE
The staircase as a building block symbolizes the importance of the object ending on the central platform. By inserting a central design element connecting the entrance steps, platform, and tribunes
we, therefore, inter-connecting the three levels of the castle and thus breathe in new context into the existing structures.
C - FOREST
The structure of the tower design becomes the assembled structure of the thickness of tree stems of the forest. By laying the load-bearing walls and raising the wooden columns, we recreate the feeling of the forest, thus bluring the boundary between the natural and the built. The main design starting point becomes the assembled structure of the tree trunks of the forest. With the laying of carrier walls and wooden pillars, we recreate the feel of the forest and thus delineate the border between the natural and the built environment. At the same time, we tried to establish the distance between the wooden construction material and the existing structures, therefore providing clear readability between the historical and the new part of the castle.

Curriculum

Superform is an architecture company from Slovenia, founded by Marjan Poboljšaj and Anton Žižek in 2001. It is successfully active in the field of architecture, interior, design and urban planning.
Marjan Poboljšaj: Graduated 1997, Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana.
Anton Žižek: Graduated in 1997, Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana.
Superform introduces a new approach: architecture is an experience, which we sense on the three levels of perception:
a. The mental level, b. The sensual level, c. The physical level.
Superform erases the stereotypes and begins with the question: How can we create an experience which you can sense or you can live in.
