VM Zinc is a well known brand of construction zinc-copper-and-titanium sheet manufactured by Umicore. Suitable for a range of surfaces from 5% slopes to vertical facades, this cladding material comes in several aesthetically pleasing finishes: from natural-sheen grey to pre-treated shades of grey and anthracite and high-resistance coloured lacquers.
The opaque dark grey Anthra-Zinc gloss finish is achieved by special, strictly controlled, chemical treatment during manufacture which does not lay down a coating but permanently alters the product surface.
Anthra-Zinc readily withstands bending and shaping without any alterations to its basic properties. Welding operations require two passes of untreated hydrochloric acid. An appropriate colour VM Zinc paint can then be applied to the welded surfaces.
Available in thicknesses of 0.62, 0.70 and 0.80 mm, in reels or sheet, the outer surface is protected by a plasticized film that should be removed at latest 30 days after installation.
VM Zinc should be laid on a continuous wooden understructure compatible with a zinc-titanium alloy and ventilation provided by a cavity under the support. Mobile securing devices should be used to allow for material expansion. VM Zinc can be laid in horizontal slats, vertically seamed elements or with flush-mounted joints.
