The combination of Art Deco and a vibrant color palette defines the spaces of Cino Italian Chophouse and Crudo Bar, located in the heart of Ward Village and overlooking Victoria Ward Park in Honolulu, Hawaii. The space, designed by Los Angeles-based Studio UNLTD, has arrived in the Pacific archipelago with an unprecedented design project that promises to transform the island’s dining scene. Specializing in the hospitality sector, Studio UNLTD places a strong emphasis on the needs and desires of the public, aiming to create spaces that are both functional and esthetically engaging.
The restaurant encompasses a space of 278 sq. m and is composed of three distinct areas, each with its own identity and character: the cocktail bar and lounge at the entrance, the Crudo Bar, and the main dining room. The interior flaunts a fusion of maximalist, Art Deco, and contemporary styles, where bright colors mix with luxurious fabrics, animal prints, and well-defined geometric lines.
The cocktail bar features an amazonite marble, characterized by a teal and gray background with white and pink streaks, in perfect harmony with the blue and green tones in front of the bar, punctuated by vertical grooves.
The bar is surrounded by upholstered stools with brass frames and blue velvet-covered seats, which add a sophisticated touch to the environment. The shelves behind the bar are also made of brass, while the decorations and moldings on the walls recall the Baroque style. A large hexagonal brass chandelier emerges in the center of the ceiling, set in a mirrored, recessed cove, illuminating the space as its protagonist and reflecting the rainbow of colors that distinguishes the décor. Next to the bar, there is an area dedicated to relaxation and beverage tasting, furnished with an elegant, curved bench, which is upholstered in a floral fabric with rose and gold tones, creating a distinctive contrast with the leopard-patterned chairs across from it.
In the dining room, the dominant color is the burgundy of the boiserie, which provides a backdrop for exotic animal portraits. The wall coverings are embellished with moldings that frame paintings and brass wall lights. Here, floral-patterned benches in rose and gold, along with chairs upholstered in green velvet, stand out in the center of the room, distinguished by their bright hues. Brass seating frames and polished tabletops complete the look, giving the restaurant an avant-garde atmosphere. The flooring in all three rooms consists of a chevron pattern that dialogues with the variety of colors and patterns in the restaurant. The see-through purple curtains create visual continuity across the different areas of the restaurant, diffusing a soft light that envelops the space.
Cino Italian Chophouse and Crudo Bar is an innovative oasis in the heart of Hawaii, offering not only a gastronomic journey through Italian culinary culture, but also a design experience that harmoniously blends eclectic elements with references to both Art Deco and contemporary design.
