Just a stone’s throw from Lake Svět, in the heart of Třeboň, Czech Republic, stands Sauna World, the spa designed by Plus One Architects. The preexisting building was recently expanded, with the goal of creating a perfect refuge for mental and physical wellness that integrates with the historical fabric of the city. Inspired by the original structural elements, Plus One Architects created suggestive environments that masterfully blend tradition and modernity, generating an intriguing interplay of spaces.
The building is articulated over two levels of different dimensions: on the ground floor, there is the reception, changing rooms, a relaxation area, some treatment rooms and a Turkish bath; on the upper level, there are different sauna rooms, a small pool and relaxation areas that offer a panoramic view of the surrounding forest.
The journey into Sauna World begins in the lobby, which immediately welcomes visitors into an inviting space defined by clean lines and featuring a refined neutral color palette. An imposing marble counter and a dark-toned wall with shelving captures the gaze, creating a distinctive contrast and becoming the centerpiece of the room. On the ceiling, sound-absorbing panels made of wood wool have been hung from the concrete floor slab using rails; interspersed with lighting fixtures, they give a sense of dynamism to the entrance area. The furnishings, marked by minimalist design and neutral tones, blend with the colors of the paintings, specifically realized for the building. These works of art play a key role in the spa experience, transforming the spaces into true small-scale art galleries. Beyond elevating the quality of the environments, they help install a sense of serenity, rounding out the holistic experience offered by the spa facility.
The relaxation area offers guests a panoramic view of the surrounding forest through a large window. The interiors feature a minimal design, characterized by marble floors and wood slat ceilings, which are reminiscent of nature, underlining the relationship with the landscape. The columns, made of polished concrete with a glossy finish, add a playful touch and a feeling of liveliness to the structure.
The lighting plays a crucial role in the interior design: the lights, integrated into the glass partitions and balustrades, create an interplay of shadows and reflections that highlight the beauty of the natural materials. The white curtains add a touch of delicate elegance, acting as a counterpoint to the strength of the wood and concrete. This contrast completes the esthetic balance of the spaces and transforms Sauna World into a refuge with a timeless atmosphere, ideal for escaping the daily hustle and bustle.
