Designed by Patrick Gilles et Dorothée Boissier, Moncler’s long-term store designers, the brand’s second Milan flagship is now open under the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II’s monumental arches. Joining the existing boutique in Via Monte Napoleone, Paris-based studio Gilles & Boissier fitted out the new boutique with highly contemporary furnishings that contrast with the neoclassical, baroque architectural backdrop of one of Milan’s most exclusive spaces, known as the Salotto dei milanesi.
The two floors of Moncler’s 630 sq. m store connect via a curvilinear staircase with a minimalist design that looks like a black metal ribbon. The interior design has enhanced the historic building, restoring decorative elements like its stucco ceilings and gold leaf decorations, and then adding marble and glass
surface-inspired new designs and monochrome graphics.
The ground floor is characterized by ceiling-mounted lighting strips and Bardiglio marble flooring in a checkered pattern, reprising the marble already present in the space where the boutique is located. Custom-made tall, walnut and burnished brass displays alternate with low oak displays reminiscent of museum display cases. The original gilded moldings along the walls and ceiling were preserved on the upper level, where they dialogue with marble and parquet flooring, and with the polished-finish low furniture in transparent glass and stainless steel.
Harmoniously combining past and future, the store’s spaces offer visitors a unique and engaging shopping experience in a historic building restored to its former glory that is further enhanced by the lighting design.
Inside the boutique, Moncler's first Candy Corner features an exclusive display of sweets and creations by Stratta, a historic Turin artisan pastry and confectionery shop. A creation from Swedish artist duo Humans since 1982 that is half avant-garde analog clock, half kinetic art, traverses and unites the store’s two levels.
