The village of Andermatt in the canton of Uri, in the heart of the Swiss Alps, offers mountain-lovers a wide range of all-season leisure activities, from skiing to hiking, biking and golf. In this stunning natural setting, The Base aparthotel is just 50 m from the ski lifts, and a short walk from the train station. The multi-floor building was built from environmentally-sustainable materials like wood and stone. With its steeply-pitched roof and large windows opening onto the Orsera Valley, it creates a perfect synthesis between modern architectural stylistic features and the rustic character of traditional buildings.
Interior space is divided between common areas and apartments: ten accommodation units of various sizes, of which one, on the ground floor, is accessible to people with disabilities. The standard, superior and deluxe accommodation ranges in size from 45 to 90 sq. m, catering to the needs of couples, families and groups of friends. A total of 49 beds are on offer as one or two bedroom units, featuring a bathroom, kitchen and living room.
The residence offers a number of amenities too: a reception and relaxation area, recreation room, private parking, and a ski room at the entrance. The building’s wooden structure ensures high levels of energy efficiency and excellent sound insulation.
At A++, an Arch Group international brand, environmental sustainability and a human-centric approach underlie the design philosophy. Operating worldwide from its headquarters in Lugano, the firm is led by architects Carlo Colombo and Paolo Colombo. The practice’s trademark multidisciplinary approach has allowed it to range from architecture to interior design and product design.
Attention to detail, the very soul of The Base aparthotel’s design, is another hallmark A++ feature. The interiors are characterized by elegant, minimalist design, once again with wood predominating in the furniture, floors and ceilings. Combined with neutral colors in shades of white, grey and black, the warmth of this material creates a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, in harmony with Andermatt’s mountain landscape. Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure maximum natural light reaches the interiors; not just glazed areas but large living-space terraces offer guests impressive views out over the Alpine landscape.
