Born in Bogotà, Mauricio Cardenas graduated in architecture from the Universidad de Los Andes in 1993, completing a Masters in architectural design at Syracuse University, New York. His initial professional experience was with major architecture practices like Meiji Watanabe & Associates in Tokyo and Renzo Piano Building Workshop in Paris. In 2002 he received a Ph.D. from the School of Interior Design at the Milan Polytecnic with a thesis exploring environmentally sensitive design. In 2004 he founded Studio Cárdenas Conscious Design in Milan. From 2006 to 2010, parallel to his own practice, Mauricio worked as a consultant for Arup as a façade systems expert, starting the Mila Arup Fa.ade Engineering team. The topics of conscious design and technological innovation with the environment in mind is one of the distinguishing features of Mauricio’s work and the subject of the courses he teaches at Milan’s Polytechnic.
Mauricio Cardenas is on the scientific committee of Frames and Nemeton, two magazines concern respectively with building envelopes and green architecture.
