Born in Ankara, Turkey in 1961, Gokhan Avcioglu completed his architectural education at KSU. He is the principal and founder of GAD which was established in 1985.
Among his projects are office buildings, hotels, cultural, public and commercial spaces and residences in Istanbul, Bodrum, New Jersey, New York City, Washington DC, Virginia and Conneticut, Libya, Beirut, Riyadh and Kiev. Among his most recent projects are mixed-use residential and commercial projects in Istanbul and New York, hotels and private residences in Bodrum, Kazan (Russia) and Kiev (Ukraine).
He has won numerous awards, including the 1997 Turkish Architecture Prize, the 2001 Cimsa Design Prize, a bronze medal at the Miami Bienal in 2003, Archmarathon Award in 2014, German Iconic Awards in 2014, Chicago Athenaeum Green Good Design Award in 2014 and 2012, Mipim AR Future Awards in 2013 and 2012 and International Property awards in 2013. In 2001, Mr. Avcioglu held a studio at the Ecole Speciale d'Architecture in Paris, Yildiz Technical University, plus Istanbul Technical University in Istanbul.
In 2013 Gokhan established the foundation GAD FOUNDATION. He is continuously working towards this outcome in addition to projects for his foundation including emphasis on various social aspects of architecture.
?Mr. Avcioglu also has offices in Istanbul, New York, Bodrum and Dubai. He shares his time between these Iocations. Mr. Avcioglu is a member of AIA New York Chapter, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Chamber of Architects Turkey (TMMOB).
