On March 15, US company WeWork opened a new co-working space in Via G. Mazzini, one of the largest in Milan. The interior design for the project was the work of D2U (Design to Users).
Building information modeling was used for every aspect of this project, which involved the repurposing of the former headquarters of the Banca Argricola Milanese bank. The technology brought greater awareness to every design choice. The new center occupies over 83 thousand square feet (7,700 m2) on eight floors, and can accommodate up to 1100 people.
D2U successfully transformed the existing offices into large, well-lit working spaces, with smart meeting rooms and private offices, capable of adapting to the increasingly changeable needs of businesspeople, professionals, and creatives, all in line with WeWork’s corporate philosophy.
“It was tremendously satisfying to complete this ambitious and innovative project during such a difficult period. It was made possible by our great working relationship with the WeWork team and the use of state-of-the-art design tools. The experience was particularly challenging because we had to rely so much on technology for remote communication, which, in the end, was what made it possible to bring the project in on time. We believe that the opening of this new co-working space sends a very strong signal of a gradual, but tangible and very necessary, recovery.” – Jacopo della Fontana, partner in charge and CEO of D2U
WeWork’s commitment to worker health and safety meant that a global plan was put together for complying with Covid regulations. The spaces designed by D2U have already proven to be highly flexible and able to respond to the new workplace standards.
