Rathmines House in Dublin strikes a perfect balance between socializing and privacy, between common areas and private spaces, for experiencing the lively and creative spirit of the city through architecture. A coliving development with 110 apartments on seven floors and three rooftop terraces, the building is an example of a people-centric approach to design. The work of London- and Dublin-based firm Rowdy Studio, the project gives every space an atmosphere of familiarity, while combining the private and communal with spacious rooms and generous amenity spaces.
The personality of the Rathmines neighborhood and its community inspired the visual identity of the structure. The color palette, for example, is a reference to the colorful doors typically found in the area, ranging from green to orange, thereby playfully tracing the history and traditions of Rathmines.
For this project, Colombini Group Contract furnished the apartments, and designed and set up the common areas, supplying kitchen furniture, bookcases, and closets, depending on the space. In the first case, the firm opted for Colombini Casa’s Lungomare collection, an elegant kitchen range offering real compositional freedom, equipped in this case with an Elica range hood. The cabinets are a textured gray, the doors are Dorian gray, the drawers are Antaro gray, and the tops are Statuario unicolor laminate. Residents can book the kitchens and dining areas for entertaining and parties.
From the most modern bookcases in the firm’s catalog, the Golf line in white cherry was chosen. Also in white cherry, Volo closets add elegance and functionality to the apartments.
Ranging from a gym to rooftop terraces, coworking spaces, a laundry, and a coffee shop, several common areas add to the experience of living at Rathmines House. Accommodation ranges from large dwellings to studio apartments measuring just 172–270 sq.ft. (16–25 m2) but without compromising functionality.
