Mapei has always had an eye on sustainability, but in 2015 it took a decisive step forward by starting to measure the environmental impacts of its products across their whole life cycle using specific tools and competences.
Now, the company conducts internal evaluations based on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, which are then communicated in Environmental Production Declarations (EPD) certified by EPD International, a third party body. Products are considered to have numerous effects on the environment: from the most widely known effect of global warming up to effects such as e the reduction in the thickness of the ozone layer. In order to reduce the impacts, Mapei offsets its environmental footprint with green concrete projects, such as providing funding for reforestation. The company also optimizes living comfort and air quality in buildings in which Mapei products are used, developing products with low volatile organic compounds (VOC) emission levels, certified with specific labels.
Such products not only have health benefits for the workers and end users, but also help architects and designers in designing and projecting international green ratings.
Throughout this year, we will be presenting eight examples that show how Mapei really focuses on environmental issues, the sustainability of its products and choosing sustainable solutions that optimize living comfort.
