The new SkyWay Monte Bianco cable car opened in May 2015, connecting Courmayeur to the glaciers at the summit of Europe via three futuristic cable stations, at 1,308 m, 2,170 m and 3,463 m. The starting point is Pontal d’Entrevès, from where the cableway rises to the Pavillion station, with shopping and eating areas, a conference venue, a winery and a botanical garden, and then on to its terminus at Punta Helbronner, in the heart of Mont Blanc. Here, a panoramic terrace offers a 360° view of this section of the Alps, while inside, there is an exhibition of Mont Blanc crystals, a restaurant, a bar and multimedia info points. The structure, made predominantly with aluminum, glass and steel, is a synthesis of engineering, architecture and design. Mapei was one of the company's involved in the creation of the SkyWay, providing materials for waterproofing and coating (Mapeband and Mapelastic Smart) the concrete underground tanks that hold the drinking water. Mapei also provided the materials used in all the stations to lay the floor and wall cladding, which were of differing materials, sizes and thicknesses. The Pontal d’Entrèves station has both stoneware tiles in different sizes and ceramic slabs on the walls, which were laid with Ultralite S1, and other floor and walls tiles in the utilities rooms that were laid with Keraflex Maxi S1. The grouting was done with Keracolor 112 GG, Keracolor 144 FF, Keracolor 111 GG and Keracolor 100 GG. In the middle station, Pavillion, Keralastic T was used to lay the tiles on metal, with Kerapoxy CQ 146 used for the grouting. For the Punta Helbronner station, the stoneware tiles and ceramic slabs for the floors and walls were laid using Ultralite S1, while in the restaurant area, Keralastic T was used to lay the tiles, with Kerapoxy 146 grouting. In the utilities rooms, the Primer SN finish was used with Quarzo 1,2 and Ultratop.
