With a strong Mediterranean identity linked to the traditions of its city, Barcelona, Juno House is the first professional members’ club designed to meet the needs of women from all over Spain. With interior design by The Room-Studio, this space in the heart of the Spanish city is the result of the renovation and redevelopment of an over 15,070 sq.ft. (1400 m2) former factory. It’s a contemporary facility, with offices, meeting areas, conference rooms, recording studios, a kindergarten, a library, exhibition galleries, restaurants, shops, a gym, and wellness areas.
Founded by a group of Spanish and American professionals, Juno House is intended to promote, support, and improve the professional lives of women by providing spaces for sharing, collaboration, creative energy, and productivity in the heart of Barcelona’s business district. This private members’ club created by women for women also promotes wellbeing at work and beyond through a holistic approach. This is a refuge, therefore, designed to foster creativity and personal wellbeing.
For the most part divided into areas for work, and areas for recreation and sharing, the various spaces of Juno House occupy two sections of the 19th-century factory. The first, characterized by its original shed roof and dubbed The Nave, is a hub for innovation and collaboration, providing equipped, flexible open spaces, co-working spaces, and areas designed for events and meetings. The second, a five-level tower dubbed The Farinera, houses various types of premises, including bars and restaurants for more private experiences, and services for leisure and the wellbeing of mind and body.
All the different sections are united by a welcoming atmosphere and an elegantly iconic design, enhanced by the use of natural materials with delicate shades. Ceramics are a feature, whose various tones, finishes, and shapes create a warm and enveloping feel. A good example is the reds and terracottas that welcome diners to the restaurant. Wood is equally prominent, with very similar colors to those found in the gym and fitness studio bringing warmth to the bar and its counter.
From the outset, Juno House was conceived as a workplace, and more, with a strong identity that could narrate the story of the Barcelona of yesterday and today by “reviving traditional crafts,” commented the designers from The Room-Studio. “We were looking for earthy shades in order to give the project a natural appeal, so we opted for tiles with both natural and glazed finishes to ensure a restful, organic appearance.”
