Located in the vibrant Panlong Tiandi development in ShanghaiJisifang Boutique and Woven Moonlight, two shops designed by Neri&Hu, stand as symbols of a design that blends together primitive and contemporary architectural elements.

Four years after designing their first flagship store in Shanghai, Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu once again collaborated with Jisifang to create two adjacent spaces that reflect the distinctive identities of each brand. Jisifang Boutique embraces the simplicity and essence of Laugier’s "Primitive Hut", while Woven Moonlight presents itself as a modern interpretation of a concrete refuge.

Jisifang Boutique, the ancestral bond between nature and mankind

Within Jisifang Boutique, a wooden structure shaped as a primitive hut forms a functional space for the product display while evoking the ancestral bond between man and nature.

The choice of the shape and materials aims to recall the ancestral bond between mankind and nature. The white oak and the handmade ceramic tiles bring warmth and authenticity to the space, which is further complemented by the textures of the linen products. The sloping roof and the openings on the façade filter the light and frame the view, creating an atmosphere of connection with the commercial street outside.

On the other hand, Woven Moonlight welcomes visitors into a space that appears to be carved in the concrete. For the interiors, soft textiles, walnut cabinetry, and refined details create a contrast with the roughness of the concrete. As visitors continue to walk through the space, the room opens to a double-pitch sloped ceiling with skylights that allow the light to pour in, transforming the space into an evolving experience.

Through these two architectural interpretations, Neri&Hu explores the concept of the return to origins, inviting visitors to reconnect with nature and to reflect on its deeper meaning.
