A place for relaxation and recreation

The tight site conditions limited the use of construction vehicles. The resultant creative solution to utilize the existing shell and footprint of the residence provided design opportunities that resulted in a place for relaxation and recreation

The design scheme consists of multiple structural portions. Once the public living space is now the private bedroom with toilet and bathroom — enveloped in a brick blanket. Once the location of working goat sheds is now a luxurious living room formed of steel and glazing. The wood structure encompasses a sauna and area for retreat and relaxation.

The steep sloping 230 m2 plot is maximized by The Weekend House and its amenities. For example, the architects also designed a bike shed as well as a swimming pool above the roof terrace nestled into the bank with a spectacular view of Bukovany’s charming context of the cellar lane.

Traditional and historically respectful with contemporary detailing

While traditional and historically respectful in nature, the contemporary detailing of this project set it apart. The plaster on the interior has been tinted and polished and left as such. A hand-hewn loft ceiling was set into a steel structure which extends to frameless swaths of glazing. Attention to tiny details like rounding corners of window lintels and linings as well as incorporating charred wood shou-sugi-ban in the sauna house and roof terrace provide a unique expression of distinction. The combination of materiality and detailing have generated spatial experiences of splendor.
