Warm, contemporary, and with uniquely special details, Hotel Giardino Mountain blends seamlessly into the history and traditions of its mountain location, while retaining its own innovative personality. Located in St. Moritz, this elegant five-star luxury resort was designed by Bofor Design and Bachhuber-Geissinger. Understated and respectful to its natural setting, the hotel is the perfect place for guests to forget the hubbub of daily life as they tune into the flora and fauna of the local environment.
Clearly discernable from outside, the balance the hotel establishes between the historical and modern continues in the rooms and suites, with their calming atmosphere and warm furnishings and shades. The color palette is delicate and natural, with touches of deep purple providing a counterpoint to the warm shades of the wood and furniture. A little Alpine and a little innovative, the design is deliberately minimalist and understated so as not to detract from the views offered by the extensive glazing, which play the starring role in this architecture. Bold splashes of color and furnishings with a pronounced personality capture guests’ attention, especially in the common spaces.
The design team paid particular attention to the space in the guestrooms between the sleeping area and bathroom. This intermediate space features a sculpture-like Toulouse or Ios bathtub from Victoria + Albert, a House of Rohl brand. The first is in the rooms, while the second is in the suites. These tubs, with their soft, enveloping, and harmonious lines, are freestanding and can therefore be positioned anywhere. Like the Victoria + Albert products for urban hotels, boutique hotels, and luxury inns, the bathtubs are made of QUARRYCAST®, a solid, lightweight, and rigid material made of finely ground volcanic limestone and resin. Adding a distinctive element of design and comfort to each room, this exclusive material provides guaranteed thermal insulation for 25 years. Victoria + Albert designs its coordinated range of bathtubs and sinks specifically for hotels. Their unique, naturally white material is both stain resistant and warm to the touch.
The tubs can also be fitted with a Tombolo wine or book holder in a range of catalyzed varnish finishes. Hand-polished between coats, this finish gives a real depth and gloss to the surfaces.
