Barth Innenausbau has participated in the project

The Swiss fashion house Akris has over 500 boutiques across the world and recently extended its reach to China, with two sales outlets being opened in Shanghai, in the famous Fairmont Peace Hotel and the Times Square mall.

barth was appointed to oversee the entire design process for the fittings and furnishings for both shops, covering all aspects from producing working drawings based on the concepts provided by the Akris interior design studio, to the manufacturing, transport, logistics and final fitting out. This even extended to providing specialist on-site support.

The interior design for both stores is built around a fluidity of space, with sinuous lines created to frame the latest fashion collections, highlighted against the light colors of the furnishings, floors, ceilings and walls. Wood and Hi-Macs were selected, especially as these materials are ideal for walls, coatings and furnishings marked by curving lines. The thermoplastic forming properties of Hi-Macs makes this material ideal for curved, smooth surfaces, without visible joints. In this case, these properties were exploited and then holes were drilled in a pattern to allow the light to filter through from behind.

barth’s furnishings include the flush cabinets with shelves, open shelves for bags, free-standing displays with drawers - curved and straight -, glass and mirror shelves, other display units and the sales counter.

The minimalist furnishing uses continuity and light to foreground the colors and shapes of the clothes and accessories, while ensuring a functional, high quality design.
