Efficiency and Sustainability for Ventilated Façades

Lapitec produces sintered stone, known precisely as Lapitec, an unalterable and versatile material made using a mixture of 100% natural minerals. It is free of resins, inks and oil derivatives as well as now being entirely silica-free. Protected by 25 patents, Lapitec is an inviting option across the world of architecture, from flooring to claddings and façades, especially as it is resistant to high temperatures, frost, UV rays and the wind. The slabs are often termed “full-bodied”, meaning their composition is uniform, and they provide an excellent alternative for ventilated façades, improving interior comfort for users in all seasons.

The light hues of these stones reflect and disperse heat, helping to reduce thermal transfer and, consequently, to cut the need for cooling in the summer. As this sintered stone is non-absorbent because of its porous-free surface, in winter it helps to keep buildings damp free and effectively provides protection from mold. The knock-on effect of this is a reduced need for cleaning and less maintenance.

In creating ventilated façades, architects and engineers do not only look for robust solutions, but also large slabs as these produce a far more contemporary look. On this front, Lapitec has a number of options for the size and thickness of its slabs, starting with those that are 12 and 20 mm in the XXL format (1,540 x 3,440 mm), along with the 30 mm ones (1,500 x 3,400 mm).

The company offers multiple finishings, but the real favorites for ventilated façades are Vesuvio and Meridio, both characterized by a sandy surface texture. For example, Meridio – presented at Cersaie 2021 – is instantly recognizable because of its roughness and texture, especially as these effects really draw out the Lapitec colors.

These slabs have always had a technological and sustainable essence, but in early 2022 another step forward was taken when the company completed its journey to eliminate crystalline silica, which – naturally present in all clays, granites, quartz and sandstones – can cause chronic respiratory diseases. The Musa collection was the first to achieve this, some time ago, but now the company has managed to remove it from the entire range. This was only possible thanks to a new patented mineral from Lapitec called Biorite®, a synthesized solution that guarantees optimal safety and sustainability.
